Five Links to the Next Five

Next five to follow:

Here is my weeks harvest of great ideas around the web that seem to be moving into the big time:

  1. Seeqpod - the next great search tool. I have been following them for awhile, thanks to Alt Search Engines for not only reminding me of it but for reminding me I either dig my Queen CDs out of garage storage and rip ‘em.
  2. I’ve honestly been trying to get on board with Google Gears. But while the functionality is great, finding really good reasons to implement now has been a challenge. Adobe AIR is certainly getting the mindshare of the non-technical business audience I interface with. This re-envisioning Gears as bleed edge HTML 5 makes a great case to rethink Gears as a strategic long-term solution.
  3. Maps are hot. Maps are cutting edge. Maps may even be the next blink tag! Seriously, mash-ups are great, but I really like this approach from A List Apart breaking free of Google Maps and moving to real open-source map application solutions.
  4. The folks over at Mochila continue to expand their syndication marketplace offerings, now letting Pringo client Web sites get access to free rights-managed content. Keep watch on Mochila!
  5. Mashups and web applications need data. Hard data, tons of data, strings and globs and lists of data. I love infochimps (and some cool cards at SXSW lol). We have open source apps, open information, and Read/Write Web brings us Where to Find Open Data on the Web! This is a must read!

Thats the list. Yes I am ignoring Google App Engine for now - not only did I not get in, Google has taken down it down temporarily after LOTS of people complained that their HuddleChat was a rip-off of 37Signals Campfire.
